Spring Snow in Damascus, MD?!

Happy Monday Everyone!

Believe it or not, we are currently experiencing around three inches of snow, and it's still coming down!! Where is spring? Where is the fifty-degree weather we were having?! The horses are staying nice and warm and may even enjoy a nice day off! :)

In other news, our owner Sheri accomplished some awesome things down south this past weekend. Ari scored a 30.9 on his first Training test! What a big accomplishment for him! Toga was amazing in his division scoring a 26.5 in dressage and had a very nice cross-country round. With a conservative pace and very civilized show jumping, he and Sheri finished in 8th place. Congrats!! Southwind is once again, so proud of its leader! Go Sheri!

Here are some photos of Ari and Toga with Sheri, from the first Southern Pines:

Hello bloggers!

Monday Updates from Southwind Farm!

Happy Monday everyone!!

Well, we were very thankful to just miss the large snowstorm last week! Although we did get a couple of inches, it was mixed with rain and landing on a warm earth so it didn't stick or stay around too long. Whew! We know the horses were thankful for that! However, our poor neighbors in Virginia and West Virginia weren't so lucky...

Also, while everyone was here in Maryland focusing on the snow, our farm owner, Sheri Thornley was down competing her two horses at the Southern Pines Horse Trials in North Carolina. Both horses went pretty well, and both Sheri and the horses learned a lot getting a few of the kinks out of the way. Toga had a great run out cross-country and Ari had a good show-jumping round and even came home with a 16th place finish in a tough group of over 20 competitors! Overall, we are very proud of our Sheri for continuing to ride at a level that is an inspiration to everyone here at Southwind :) Stay tuned to hear more about Sheri's upcoming competition schedule, and other great things happening at Southwind!

PS- Don't forget we still have some spots open for horse board here in Damascus, MD. Visit our website: http://southwindfarminc.com/ for more info!

Have a great day!

Getting Ready for Upcoming Show and....Snow?

Monday is here!

We are still hopeful that spring is right around the corner, but the weatherman is calling for a mid-week snowstorm this week. Wait, what? What happened to the nice 50-degree weather we were having? Here is the statement issued by the weather center as of this morning:

... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Tuesday evening
through Wednesday evening...

* precipitation type... snow.

* Accumulations... more than 5 inches possible... with the potential
for significant snowfall somewhere within the watch area.

* Timing... precipitation mixing with and changing to snow
Tuesday night. Snow continuing into Wednesday evening.

* Temperatures... in the lower and mid 30's.

* Winds... northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Impacts... difficult driving conditions. Heavy wet snow and
gusty winds could lead to power outages.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

And guess what? Just in time for the snow storm, owner of Southwind Farm, Sheri Thornley, has been preparing to head down to Southern Pines, NC for the Southern Pines Horse Trials. How lucky! Loading the trailer, getting hay together and even clipping horses! Sheri is prepared and ready to go! We wish her the best of luck! We also hope that all of our boarders here in Damascus, MD stay warm and safe if this storm does come!
Sheri's horse, Ari, says he's ready for competition!!
