Maryland Horse Trials Spring Starter #3 Results

Good morning,

Today we are sharing a few quick results from The  Maryland Horse Trials Spring Starter #3 this past weekend, on May 29th.  Southwind owner, Sheri, competed her young horse Biricchino aka "B" in the Beginner Novice-C division. Even though he was a little shell shocked being his first time out this year he was excellent and loved every minute of cross-country! They finished in 6th on a 38.50. With Toga, Sheri competed and won in the Training-B division on their score of a 23.40. They also won the TIP award for the division. Way to go B and Toga!

Boarder Lauren Carey also competed with her horse Jackalack in the Novice-B division and finished in 4th on their score of a 23.80. This was the pairs second time competing at the Novice level and they also won the TIP for their division. Way to go Lauren and Jack!

Supporting one of our boarders!

Good morning,

We have to give a big shout out of support to one of our longtime boarders, Cashell. She made the move-up to the Training level of eventing this weekend at Fair Hill. She and her mare Riva scored a 26.7 in dressage including some 8's and 9's which is pretty great considering it was their first time at that level and a large, tough division. The pair made it around show-jumping in the deep stadium footing with only 2 rails down. Unfortunately the weather stayed uncooperative, to say the least, and the muddy conditions made the footing less than ideal which made cross-country difficult, resulting in an elimination. Cashell told us "I was pleased with her, it was a tough course to move up to Training level. It was also her first overnight competition and only our 4th ever competition together.  Waredaca is next!" We are very proud of this pair and know they will continue to do well!

We love our boarders here at Southwind and love supporting each and every one of them. If you want to join this type of environment, contact Sheri today about stalls open for boarding.  You can also learn more by visiting: www.southwindfarminc.com

Quick Show Results!

Good Monday morning,

Today we just have a quick show result for you! Southwind Farm boarder, Cashell Jaquish and her horse Corrival ("Riva")  placed fourth in their first USEA event of the year at the MCTA Horse Trials. The pair competed in the Novice Level and did really well together! Way to go Cashell!
Riva is a 16-year-old Oldenburg mare who is just restarting her eventing career after a seven year layoff so that makes their 4th place finish even more wonderful!

Remember, if you want to join the Southwind Farm family we have some openings for boarders! Visit: http://southwindfarminc.com/ for more info!

BIG WELCOME to New Barn Manager Rachel!

We have some VERY exciting news for this Wednesday morning! Southwind Farm is beyond thrilled to welcome our newest staff member, barn manager Rachel. We are so excited to have Rachel join the Southwind family. Be sure to say hello to her when you see her around and keep reading below for more information!

Welcome Rachel!!!!

My name is Rachel. I am the new manager at Southwind Farm, and I look forward to working with you all!

Like most of you I've loved horses ever since I saw one for the first time. Growing up I bummed rides to every show and fair that happened close to where I lived and I rode with my friends whenever they went to see their horses. I rescued my own horse just before my 19th birthday, and together she and I have been primarily trail riding in hopes of becoming an endurance riding pair!

I attended Morrisville State College in their Equine Studies program and throughout those four years I worked at a different farm every summer. I was an assistant and stable hand on a multi-discipline training farm, I was the assistant trainer at a small training operation with 4-H and Pony Club, flew to Texas to work as a manager on a private dressage farm, and I wrapped up my last year of school doing a bit everything as an intern with the foals at The Last Chance Corral. I graduated in 2012 with my Associate Degree in Equine Management and I graduated again in 2015 with my Bachelor Degree in Equine Rehabilitation.

As a recent graduate I went to work as a veterinary and surgical assistant at Rhinebeck Equine Hospital in New York State. Running the clinic over night, assisting in surgeries, and following the patients through their recoveries fueled my passion for helping these special animals and the strong people who owned them. Each new client had more to show and teach me than the last.

With my background, I hope to be able to add valuable knowledge and skills to Southwind Farm and I can't wait to meet you!

-Rachel

Don't forget!! Calling all boarders!

We hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend of beautiful weather enjoyed it with friends and family.  Sheri's horse, Toga, was all set to compete at MCTA this weekend but due to the nonstop rain we had all week prior to the event, the grass conditions were just too wet and slick to compete on. However we still wanted to share this cute photo of Toga braided and ready to go!

On this chilly May Monday morning, we wanted to remind everyone that there are still a few board openings at Southwind! Our experienced staff all live on the property and help maintain a routine that keeps our horses happy and healthy.  Not only do we have the facilities you need to train your competition horse, there are also miles of trails for conditioning and pleasure.  All types of riding are welcome, as are your own blacksmith and veterinarian.  We have always emphasized a relaxed atmosphere that is essential to every horse’s well-being regardless of discipline.  Our location in Damascus, Montgomery County, MD provides easy access to I-270 and I-70. A few quick things!

It's a rainy morning here in Maryland and it looks like we will be getting rain every day this week! We have just a couple of quick things to mention this morning.

First up is birthday wishes for Sheri's daughter Addie! She turned 21 last week.  Happy Birthday Addie! Where has the time gone? It seems like this was just yesterday...

And now we want to share a picture from the PVDA show we had here last weekend of Connie and Juice Box competing. What a great pair!

Next we have to share this hilarious photo taken by Carolyn Del Grosso of one quite unusual May flower we have in bloom...

Finally, don't forget that Southwind Farm is currently accepting boarders! For those that don't know, we are located in Northern Montgomery County in Damascus, MD. Our 60-acre facility includes two barns, 50 stalls with mats and windows, a large indoor arena with an automatic watering system, two outdoor arenas, jumps, a small cross-country school, and miles of trails. We have over 35 acres of pasture that is divided into fields which can be rotated to maintain the grazing.  We prefer to keep mares and geldings separate, with small group turnout only.  We blanket within reason (if it’s too hot, we’ll take it off, etc) and have plenty of parking spots available for trailers.
