Southwind's Show Results

Good morning! Lots of activity lately in the show ring with Southwind's boarders. Keep reading below to find out more!

Northern Light Farm Update:
Last weekend the Northern Light Farm group went to WBTA in Chevy Chase May 17th and 18th. Sydney Recce attended her first show ever and was only 1/2 point away from Reserve Champion. Quite the debut!! She focused on having fun and supporting the other riders and the positive vibes paid off.
Sofya Krasikova won Champion in Mini-stirrup and Reserve Champion in Short-stirrup. Both riders rode Cookies and Cream.

Sunday the 19th was the B-rated day of which Sofya got to ride in her first-ever, recognized show. She was Champion in the Short-stirrup Equitation class and was also only 1/2 point away from Reserve in the Short- Stirrup Hunter.

Trainer Heather Achen is very proud of these girls and their accomplishments. A lot of nerves were over come and parents were very supportive of one another. That's what showing is all about!
Way to go Sofya!!

Way to go Sydney!

Results Update from Boarder Jennifer Martin:

Jennifer and her horse Cally are normally eventers, but for some over fences practice on May 18th they went to the Washington County Horse Council's Hunter Show.  They finished 3rd in the TIP Handy Hunter, USHJA Outreach Hunter Challenge, USHJA Thoroughbred Hunter Challange, and 4th in the USHJA Outreach Medal, as well as 3rd in the TIP Low Hunter and two 6ths in Open Hunter over fences!  It was a perfect day for horse showing, and made better by the fact that she was so close to my parents home that they were able to come watch and take pictures of her and Cally.

And on the eventing front, Jennifer and Cally finished in 8th in the Beginner Novice division at the Maryland Horse Trials on May 25th, which was their first event of the year. Way to go!

Also at the Maryland Horse Trials, boarder Emily Goldstein competed her horse Mo in the Beginner Novice division and finished in 5th. Nice job! We also want to wish Emily luck as she leaves next week for a working student position in Virginia. We couldn't be happier for her and can't wait for her return!

Sheri's daughter Addie also competed and rode in the Novice division on Sheri's horse, Toga. The pair finished in 4th! Great job Addie!

Laurie Berger was 5th on Major at the same show in the Beginner Novice division and Ken Harkness on JJ finished 4th in their Elementary division.

Isabelle Geiger and Birdie placed 6th in their Elementary division as well!

Sheri and Ari (Azari) won the Open Training division and then had a little bit of drama when Ari tried to jump out of the trailer over the breast bar...no worries though, Ari is okay!

Great job everyone!

Good morning everyone!

Things have been busy around the farm lately! Competition season is in full-swing for Sheri and some of the boarders. We also have our annual Jumpalooza horse show coming up! Continue reading below to stay up-to-date on all of the great things Southwind has going on!

Last week, it was it was Sydney Colella's first time showing and she took the class by storm with a blue in her first class EVER! She ended up with Reserve Champion in the Mini Stirrup of the Sugarloaf Mountain Horse show series.

Also taking the show by storm was Sofya Krasikova winning two Champions in the Short Stirrup Equitation and Pleasure divisions. She also gave everyone a run for their money in the Low Pony division. It was a great accomplishment for she never showed 2' before!

Jocelyn Linde had a great experience with Cosmopolitan showing for her second time. After a bumpy start, she got on a roll taking Reserve Champion in the Beginner Hunter Division.

We are very proud of this new group of riders coming out so strong after a long winter

Yesterday, Sheri competed Toga at the MCTA Horse Trials and did wonderfully! Toga finished on his 25.2 dressage score and was third in his division! He also won the senior novice MCTA award, the MCTA dressage award, and the TIP award!!! Way to go Sheri and Toga!

And remember the professional photoshoot boarder Emily got?! Well, we found a few of the photos and we think they turned out great!

An Insider's Perspective from the Show

Good Morning!

Many of Southwind's riders and boarders are showing and doing very well so far this spring! Today we would like to share with you a blog written by one of Michael Friedman's kids' mothers. It gives you a little bit of an idea about what it is like going to a show! Check it out:

This last weekend Aly, Annika and Marina competed at the HCHSA Swan Lake Show in Littlestown, PA. The weather was beautiful; sunny with a light breeze, and there was decent turnout for the show.  Actually 11 competitors from Michael’s group attended the show, and it was a bit of a challenge with 3 rings going at the same time and our competitors showing at the same time.  Talk about juggling. Michael was a whirlwind racing from one ring to the next.

The jumper courses were colorful, long and challenging.  The first round in the Timed-First-Jump Off in the Hopeful Jumper Division included about 15 obstacles, with an equal number in the second “Power-and-Speed” class.   Aly and Vanna (aka Wheel of Fortune) were super; competing in the first two of the three classes and placing 5th and 3rd.  Next, they switched gears and competed in the Low Pony 2’ Hunter winning Reserve Champion in the division.  In the Hunter ring, Annika and Elton (aka Rocket Man) competed in the Junior Equitation Division, placing 3rd and 6th.

Next up for them was the Junior Hunter 3’ Division.  They had a great run and took home Champion for this division.  Marina and Joey (aka Amaretto Gold) also had a great day, not just for their Reserve Champion in the Childrens Hunter Division, which had quite a number of competitors or their 2nd place in the Childrens Medal class, but also for successfully completing their first-ever 3’ trip in a competition.  Congratulations to Aly, Annika and Marina for a great day!  Next up for Annika and Marina, the Lexington Spring Encore at the Virginia Horse Park.  Good luck!
