Weekend Show Results

Hello Everyone,

We hope that you enjoyed the holiday weekend. Sheri and her groom extraordinaire, aka daughter Addie & mascot Spike, headed to the Virginia Horse Center for the Virginia Horse Trials & CCI event. Sheri competed her horse Toga in the Open Training division and did really well! The two finished in 7th place out of over 25 riders!

Andrew was also set to compete Azari ("Ari") in the CCI1* division but Ari had a heel grab that was just enough to keep him from being able to compete. He is fine and will be back to show his stuff again soon! We still wanted to share this photo of them before jog:

If anyone else has show results they would like us to share on the blog, please email them to Tara

Southwind Weekend Show Results

Good Morning Everyone!

We have some show results to share with you from the weekend!

Despite the ominous looking weather forecast, Cally and Jennifer Martin had a great day of showing at the Washington County Horse Council Hunter show this Sunday.  Jennifer was happy to have my mother and family friends come to watch us show, and delighted to have a successful day of showing, too!  The pair finished 2nd in both the USHJA Outreach Silver Medal and the Outreach Hunter Challenge!  They also had some nice trips in the Low Thoroughbred Hunters, and collected some 3rds and 4ths there, and even tried their hand at the TB in-hand class, where they finished 4th!
Way to go Jennifer & Cally!

Sheri's daughter, Addie, also took Sheri's horse Toga to compete at the MCTA Horse Trials where they WON the Jr./YR Training-level division. With a dressage score of 34.5 and two great jumping rounds, we are proud of them. Way to go Addie & Toga!

Any Geldings Out There??

Good morning!

We hope everyone had a great weekend! Here at Southwind we truly do LOVE our mares!! :) However, we could use a few geldings to balance out some of the girl power we have! If you have a gelding and are looking for a new place to board, please come check us out!  Southwind has a few board openings for gelding. At the farm we have a 60-acre facility which includes two barns, 50 stalls with mats and windows, a large indoor arena with an automatic watering system, two outdoor arenas, jumps, a small cross-country school, and miles of trails for hacking!!  You can find out more information at http://southwindfarminc.com/boarding/

Also, we wanted to congratulate one of our awesome mares, Jenny (aka Heat Wave), for her 7th place finish (of 18 starters) in the Novice division at MCTA two weeks ago! Jenny is owned by boarder Janet Andres and was ridden by Kelley Williams of A Bit Better Farm. Way to go!

This past weekend was absolutely gorgeous!! Sheri competed Toga at the MCTA Horse Trials in the Open Training-4 division. The pair finished in 2nd place after two clear jumping rounds! Way to go Sheri! Andrew McConnon also competed Sheri's Azari (Ari) in the Open Preliminary-2 division and finished in 9th place. They are now qualified and planning on going to the CCI1* in Virginia!

Sheri also has a new project horse that we think is absolutely adorable and had to share! Meet Biricchino:
Stay tuned to see how this fancy one progresses in training ;)

Saying Goodbye Is Never Easy

Last week, Sheri and the Southwind Family had to say goodbye to her beloved beagle, Emmie. Emmie was a great dog that Sheri had since she was a puppy and it was just her time. Emmie will be greatly missed around the farm, and her memories will not be forgotten!
Rest Easy Emmie, we will miss you!

Updates from Northern Light Farm

Good Morning Everyone,

We wanted to give you updates this morning from Northern Light Farm!

First off we have to welcome Amanda and Ashlyn Halliday to Southwind Farm and congratulate them on their new pony Vanna. We are very excited to have them here and are searching for a second horse for her mother Amanda!

The Northern Light crew went to Swan Lake Stables last weekend and had a wonderful first show of the season. Not only did they come away with five Champions, we had some amazing breakthroughs.
What a bang to start the year with! We are so very proud of all our riders and horses and their accomplishments that Sunday.

Ashlyn also took her new pony Wheel of Fortune aka Vanna to Swan Lake and cleaned up with two Champion ribbons. Ashlyn was a star and went for the gold by cantering her first course ever at the show! Both mother and trainer were surprised, amazed and proud all in the same breath.

Samantha Steckel showed Northern Light aka Simon and won Champion in the Hopeful Hunter division. It was also her first time doing a course of more than a few jumps. Both Simon and Samantha did a fantastic job. They are a pair to look out for in the future! And thanks Aubrey Mills for grooming for Samantha!

Sofya Krasikova and Cookies and Cream were Champion in both the Short Stirrup and the Childrens Pony division too. They were the last to go and they didn't disappoint us in the least!  The pair has been struggling to get all the bits and pieces in line and they did just that. (Very Proud!) Also, Sofya's little sister Marina rode as well and did her very first lead line class. She got a 2nd place ribbon that she really was happy to have!

Way to go everyone!

We also want to congratulate Kenneth Harkness and J-Walker (aka "JJ"), for their 5th place finish in the Beginner Novice- A division yesterday at The Maryland Horse Trials Spring Starter #2! Way to go!
