Don't forget... a few spots open for boarders!

Good morning!

We hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and enjoyed it with friends and family. On this chilly Monday morning, we wanted to remind everyone that there are still a few board openings at Southwind for the winter! Our experienced staff all live on the property and help maintain a routine that keeps our horses happy and healthy.  Not only do we have the facilities you need to train your competition horse, there are also miles of trails for conditioning and pleasure.  All types of riding are welcome, as are your own blacksmith and veterinarian.  We have always emphasized a relaxed atmosphere that is essential to every horse’s well-being regardless of discipline.  Our location in Damascus, Montgomery County, MD provides easy access to I-270 and I-70.
PS- did we mention that we have an indoor arena!?!?

Be sure to check us out and contact owner Sheri Thornley today to set up your appointment!

Calling all geldings!!

Good morning!

We hope that everyone had an enjoyable weekend. Did you know, that here at Southwind we accept all types of horses and disciplines into our farm family? However, (even though we love our mares) we are currently looking for a few geldings to add to the herd! If you have a gelding and are looking for a place to board with an indoor this winter, come check us out!
We also allow boarders to bring in their own farrier and veterinarian as well! We are a place to board where everyone is welcomed, so be sure to visit our website for more info:  http://southwindfarminc.com/

We can't forget the Waredaca results!

Good morning,

With the fall competition season coming to a close, we forgot to mention the results from the Waredaca Fall Starter two weekends ago! Sheri took her baby horse, Biricchino aka "B," to compete in the Beginner Novice Horse-A division and finished in 4th place!! He is really catching on to the eventing world and learning how fun it is!

Boarder Lauren Carey also competed her horse, Jackalack, for their 2nd event ever in the Beginner Novice Rider-B division and WON! Lauren may be new to the eventing world, but based on how well she has done these past two events, we think she may be hooked!
Lauren & Jackalack looking great!
(Photo from her Facebook)

Lisa Austin was right behind her in the same division finishing with a tie for 2nd place with her horse, Lookndownthebarrel. Great job!

We also just have to share this incredible photo of Sheri's horse, Toga, taken by the very talented
Pamela Heemskerk-Hefley! What a great group of people we have at Southwind!

Time is running out! Come board with us before winter hits!

Good morning everyone,

Winter is coming! We don't want to think about it, but fall is almost over and winter is on it's way. If you are looking for somewhere with access to an indoor arena and a community feel that can't be beat, come join Southwind Farm!  We are located in Northern Montgomery County in Damascus, MD, and our 60-acre facility includes two barns, 50 stalls with mats and windows, a large indoor arena with an automatic watering system, two outdoor arenas, jumps, a small cross-country school, and miles of trails. We have over 35 acres of pasture is divided into fields that can be rotated to maintain the grazing.  Mares and geldings are separate, with small group turnout.  We blanket within reason (if it’s too hot, we’ll take it off, etc) and have parking spots for trailers. Plus did we mention that we have an indoor?

Great Weekend for Southwind Riders!

Good Morning!

Yesterday, several of Southwind's riders competed at The Maryland Horse Trials Fall Starter #2. Everyone bundled up in the cold and wind and went out to compete! Southwind's owner, Sheri, competed her sales horse Biricchino, aka "B," in the Beginner Novice-B division and did very well! It was his first official Beginner Novice and he finished on his dressage score of a 33.50. Lisa Austin Competed her own, CMA Lookindownthebarrel in the Beginner Novice-C division and finished in 5th on their dressage score of 31.50. Lauren Carey competed her own Jackalack in the Beginner Novice-D division and won on their dressage score of a 30.30! This was their first event ever! Way to go everyone!

Lauren & Jackalack with their 1st place ribbon

Also an update from Heather & Northern Light Farm: "Congratulations to IEA Team Northern Light Farm today! The team won 4 Blue ribbons out of 7 riders...not too shabby! Also congrats to Mitch Walker for winning the Sportsmanship Award. Patting your very difficult ride and wearing a smile is in fact a valued trait."

Way to go NLF IEA Team! (Sorry, no photos this time!)

Preparing Your Older Horse for Winter, an article from Hagyard Equine

Good morning!

We hope that everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful weekend! Here at Southwind, we have several older horses here on the farm. We work hard to give all of our horses, especially the older ones, the best conditions possible. It is very important as we prepare to head into the winter season that owners of older horses take necessary measures to ensure a good winter for them! Today we share an article link from Hagyard Equine written by Gina G. Tranquillo, VMD, CESMT on preparing your older horse for winter. Take a look here: http://www.hagyard.com/custdocs/PreparingHorsesWinter.pdf

And remember, if you are looking for a place to board this winter where your horse will not only get the best of care, but YOU will have access to an indoor arena, please visit us at: www.southwindfarminc.com
